I read and enjoyed a lot of classics for various high school English classes, but I have found that I enjoy them far more when I can pick and choose how I read them.

I’m currently working my way through Oscar Wilde’s body of work. Here are eight more classics I plan to read upon completing that task.

BOOK TALK: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

‘… Monday burn Millay, Wednesday Whitman, Friday Faulkner, burn ’em to ashes, then burn the ashes’ (Bradbury 6).

Guy Montag is a fireman in a world where they are expected to start fires rather than put them out. His fuel? Books, now illegal, and the houses they are hidden in. Montag never questions his orders and typically performs his job with great enthusiasm. After a hard day’s work, he returns home to his wife and her television “family.”

Until one day, he stumbles across Clarisse, an odd new neighbor, and his routine, somehow both mundane and destructive, is interrupted forever.
